TestimonialsWhat the people are saying about the coolest little place in TahoeTestimontials!!!The Best Explanation of THE BLOCK on TripadvisorHey Everyone, I see a ton of mixed reviews out there so here is my two cents. Here is why you will see the one or two star ratings: If you are looking for a traditional hotel, Posh luxury, or something fancy for your Euro-style ski holiday go to a Hyatt resort, or something like that. The block is very youth oriented. I am not saying you have to be in your teens and twenties (I am in my mid-30's), you just have to have a youthful disposition. If you have a family, your kids will love it, it definitely has the "cool" factor. The reason I am giving it an Excellent is a combination of the atmosphere, prices, the friendly people (staff/guests), and location. The Block hotel is a converted motel, so the rooms are set up physically in, well... A BLOCK. There is a square courtyard between the buildings that is a very social place after you get off the slopes - did I mention that the gondola to heavenly is a very short walk? It is super close to the slopes and the casinos. If clubbing is your thing (or seeing attractive people) ask the desk for passes to Altitude. The place has music throughout the courtyard, and internet cafe, a pool table, spa, free video game rentals, board racks in the rooms, theme rooms (we stayed in an old school room), and lots of friendly people. If you want seclusion, or if you are not friendly, this may not be the place for you. This place is lively. I was there for four days, and within a day or two I was on a first name basis with Joe the general manager and Liko (one of the owners), as well as others. They are always around and always willng to talk, or just kick back with the guests. Our old school room was a typical room. Small with two beds, but we really only slept in the room. Most of the waking hours we weren't gambling or on the slopes, we were hanging out in the lobby, playing pool, or lounging around out on the desk with other guests and employees. Long story short.. You want a place with personality and energy that is close to the action - you will love it. If you are looking for a european chalet or a hyatt/Marriott resort type deal, this isn't for you. From Lindsay to Liko and BackHello Liko, I'm sure you're a busy man, and probably get a million emails a day, but I felt compelled to write you a little letter. I live on the east coast and was doing some research into affordable ski and stay packages for mountains over here when I realized that nobody was really catering to the snowboarding crowd. Everything is very family oriented. I have never heard of a snowboarder's hotel, and I got a little glimmer of possiblility in my eye at the thought of doing something that hasn't been done. So of course, I googled it, and you popped up. I'm writing to tell you that I'm very impressed, and a little dismayed, to find out that you have already come up with the underlying idea of my momentary brainstorm, and have implemented it so well. In particular, I thought it was especially brilliant to ask industry vendors to outfit their own rooms; you definately leveraged your connections the right way. Also, I read your bio on the site's About Us page and think your take on life (not being a dress rehearsal) was quite inspiring for those of us that are also entreprenurial and catch ourselves, from time to time, second guessing things. I'll tell you, this is the first time I've ever wrote to a stranger like this out of the blue, but I thought to myself, who doesn't like to recieve an extra pat on the back once in a while? So, well done, Liko! I hope you are very successful in all your BLOCK persuits, and in any other business you do. Take care,
Lindsay, Thank you for your kind words. As you know in the entrepreneurial world,..things always look easier than they really are and it's always good to feel appreciated or admired for the things that we do so I thank you verrrrry much for your compliments. Marc and I are like anyone else that have started a business..we're growing as it grows and we've got a long way to go and a lot of hard work but the future does look bright. The only way we know we're getting somewhere is by the sizes of our mistakes..well,..we've gone far :o) If you ever see a hotel in a great snowboard town that may need to be a BLOCK..call or email me and maybe we can work together on something; that way,..both our goals are being met at the same time. We got back to Chicago last night and the whole "While You were out" thingie went well. Just wanted to drop a line and let you know you have great people working there. They really made the stay there enjoyble. Good luck with your new hotels and hopefully you can find a crew like you have there and I am sure it will succeed. Thanks again, Morphine to rememberI wanted to thank you and your staff for the excellent service you provided at my last stay at The Block in mid-February. First, I think my original room wasn't ready when I checked in and you were nice enough to score me the Fireplace Room. As you may know, I broke my leg boarding at Sierra on Wednesday February 16. Of course I had to do this in the middle of the biggest snow season in 50 years. I don't recommend breaking bones while snowboarding, but if you're gonna do it, Tahoe is the place to be. In record time the ambulance drove me to Barton Hospital where I had surgery. They did a pretty damn good job. I was there until Friday (or was it Saturday, I was still on Morphine, so I can't remember). Anyway, you guys were nice enough to pack up my stuff from my room, plus you refunded me for my last night, which was really cool of you. I also want to thank Richard Kostas for hauling my stuff out to my car for me. Please pass along my thanks if you see him. I had the pleasure of meeting both you and Marc Frank Montoya. Dear Liko, Hotel room, new outfits & drinks cost money but memories at The Block are priceless!! Laura Stayin' n Playin'Dear Marc and Liko, My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the THE BLOCK for 5 nights during our August Lake Tahoe vacation and we'd like to tell you what a great experience we had. Patrick and all the staff of the hotel were execellent and made us feel like we were visiting good friends rather than staying in a hotel, and we really had a lot of fun playing in the Lake Tahoe area. We enjoyed the rooftop Hot Tubbin' and barbecuing fresh caught trout on the deck. We had a great time every day we were there! You can be sure that next time we visit Tahoe we will be staying and playing at THE BLOCK. Bunny
Patrick- I was actually hoping to send you the 8x10 glossy of the bunnies for your wall - but it wouldn't fit in the envelope. So you'll just have to hold out til the next bunny adventure to the mountains. Thanks for taking such good care of us. The bunnies love The Block - and we tell everyone we know about theblock.com Take Care! Wedding BellsRich, Thanks for taking care of us and the great hospitality you provide during our wedding day. Keep up the great work, and good luck with the coming season! Peace! - John BTW - Special honors go to Petey! He is the man and he took great care of us - keep him around, he's doing a great job!! Another Satisfied GuestHey,
A group of us guys stayed at The Block this past Saturday night. We had never heard of it before, but saw it was a good deal – better than the casinos 3 minutes away. We had a great stay. It's a chill, relaxed spot that was perfect for us mid-20s guys. We were able to cruise the casinos, drink at our spot and come back and forth. It was perfect. -JimmyTHE BLOCK got Beats! One of our many diehard fans recorded a hip hop single about THE BLOCK. Click here to check it out!
-Jimmy |
